Error 402
- This is a situation where the window is opening up off to the side of the screen. We are not sure how this happens, but deleting LEGACY2.USR from the Legacy folder on the hard drive resets all the windows to the default screen and things are fine from there.
- A "fresh" LEGACY2.USR file will be regenerated when you go back into Legacy.
Screens do not size or fit properly or flow off the monitor
- Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to navigate to the Legacy folder on your hard drive and delete the LEGACY2.USR file, which holds all of the window size and placement information. (A fresh LEGACY2.USR will be created to replace the bad one.)
- To close a window you can usually press the "Esc" key. The next time it's opened, it fits entirely on the screen.
- You can use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Space, which will enable you to move, resize, or close the the window without exiting Legacy.
- The problem may also be the video driver. Since hardware manufacturers update their drivers frequently, the problem is resolved by visiting the manufacturer's website, then downloading and installing the updated drivers.
Text Does Not Fit in Screens or Grids or Is Too Small
Text, screen and icon fit in Legacy screens is dependent on Legacy, monitor settings and screen drivers.
The first thing to try is resizing the window or grid to see if the text is now legible. If that does not work, do the following:
- Right click on your Computer Desktop and select Properties from the popup menu.
- The Display Properties screen will open. Click on the Settings tab and click the Advanced button.
- At the next screen (General) change the font size from small to large, click the OK button and restart your computer.
- Open Legacy and check the screen fonts, if they are correct exit the program.
- Repeat steps 1. through 3. but this time change the font size back to small and restart your computer.
- Open Legacy and check the screen fonts again, if they are correct you are finished.
- If the screen fonts revert to an illegible state, repeat steps 1. through 3. and permanently set your font size to large and restart your computer.
- Try a different monitor resolution.
If this doesn't work try downloading the latest video driver for your monitor. Since hardware manufacturers update their drivers frequently, the problem is resolved by visiting the manufacturer's website, then downloading and installing the updated drivers.
Toolbar Icons Missing in Family or Pedigree View
- There is only room for a limited number of icons (tools) on the bars in Legacy. If one is full, any insertion of another icon (tool) will cause the existing icon (tool) at the right end to drop off.
- Resizing a window will make a difference as to how many icons (tools) can be displayed. A very small window can display only a few icons; a full- size window will display all. Try resizing the window.
Some screens are black, or colors are bad/blotchy
- Check your monitor color settings and make sure that either 16-Bit High Color, 24-Bit True Color, or 32-Bit True Color is selected. You may need to experiment with the selections.
- The problem may also be the video driver. Since hardware manufacturers update their drivers frequently, the problem is resolved by visiting the manufacturer's website, then downloading and installing the updated drivers.
